Computer fluency pp. 123, 145, 190 |
Computer fluency is an understanding of the way computers work that can only come from using, exploring and experimenting with them. Fluent people do not necessarily "know" more about computers than anybody else, they just take a different approach. They are willing to try and explore until they get the result they desire. Computer fluency is more than just knowing "how to use" a computer. Many people who have taken all sorts of "computer literacy" classes are completely helpless when something happens that they have not been trained to deal with, because they have not cultivated fluency. Fluent people are bricoleurs, who have developed a facility for working with the machines. |
