Honesty pp. 64, 76 |
What's the point of learning something that isn't true? For the most part, there is none. Distrust is our natural defense against being taken for a ride. That's why honesty is a necessary precondition of good learning. If you teach something true, but in a dishonest way, kids will tend to distrust what they are learning. Kids need to know that they are learning what they are learning when they are learning it. And they need to know when adults have difficulty, because they know adults can't know everything. Good learning has to happen in an atmosphere of openness and trust. |
