Once upon a time it was common to be able to look inside a machine and get some idea of how it worked (or how it did not work if it was out of order). I believe that children growing up today suffer seriously because of the the opacity of the technologies around them. Most computer programs are opaque: you can't see the workings of the program and would probably not understand them if you could. |
