School-style learning

pp. 42, 47, 193

As opposed to home-style learning, which is self-directed and based on exploration, school-style learning is dependent on the willingness of adults to explain or teach.

This learning is largely verbal and reaches its purest form in school, where the child gives up control of the learning process to the curriculum and the lesson plans of a teacher.

It is important to remember, however, that school-style learning doesn't only happen at school. IN fact, school-style learning underpins most "educational" products whether for computers or not.
